Canada Day @ St. Jacob's Country
Wow, I haven't been back here for like a month! So much to tell, but...I won't go through it all. First off, never eat popsicles during work hours, especially if they're Red, White and Blue colored. I made the mistake of eating one during lunch today, and now I look like I'm really sick, like I was poisoned, perhaps bitten by one of those snakes down in the courtyard since it's "Celebrate Australia" day today and "Tenant Appreciation Day" down here for us. So today we had a free lunch of nachos & salsa, salad with balsamic vinegrette and chicken on a skewer. Of course they couldn't miss passing out the "Down under Natural's" hair product line with the cute looking koala bears logo.
Anyway, I guess I'll continue while I keep rubbing the bluish black hue off my lips.
So for Canada day, Alex and I decided to take a trip, okay, I decided to take a trip. =D So, I thought I'd spend me long weekend with Alex in a less exciting place in hopes of relaxation, unfortunately not having enough money in the budget to do a full out spa, I decided to heat into KW. Ya, so everyone says there's nothing in KW, and really there isn't. But a B&B sounded good in St. Jacob's Country, so that's where we headed. It was a pretty good trip, except for the expensive taxi fares. Watching the fireworks at Columbia Lake was awesome! The firewords were so close to us, and it was really romantic sitting under the starts on the green hill, with Alex keeping me warm. It was really chilly, really really chilly. The chilly where people were all in sweatshirts and bringing fleece blankets kind of chilly. So, friday night we were freezing out butts off while standing in line for cotton candy! Hee hee...the cold couldn't stop my cravings.
Saturday we went to the farmers' markets. It was packed with saturday tourists and all the vendors were Mennonites. I couldn't help but pick out a basket of freshly picked, juicy red strawberries, for $3!! Some were extremely sweet, sweeter than any stawberries I've ever bought in Toronto. The trip was a total pigout, from fruits, to homemade breakfasts, to freshly cut fries and apples frites. Mind you, we also did a lot of walking. Thankfully, on Sunday we met these two chinese girls who came to the same B&B and agreed to drive us out of St. Jacob's to the Sunday market so we didn't need to pay more for the taxi. So Sunday was a lazy day, lunch at the market and dinner at Jack Astors, before we headed back to the train station to wait for our train which happened to be 25 mins late. Oh well, it was a romantic and relaxing/lazy getaway.
The shops in St. Jacobs were all exquisite, my favourite store was the antique store with all these old books. I'll go back one day, WITH my car and take a thorough look around.
On an even brighter note, Alex has been getting interviews! He had 2 recently and is still waiting for the call back. Waiting is excruciating. Well, please help me pray that he gets these jobs! Not asking for a lot, just asking to get by.
